You get an extra 180 days to file your Vermont income tax return after your qualifying service ends if you served in a combat zone, were ordered to full-time active duty from a reserve component because of a conflict in a combat zone, or were hospitalized for injuries received during that service.

File your Vermont return within 180 days of the end of your qualifying service, and include documentation of your service. Contact the Vermont Department of Taxes Taxpayer Services Division at P.O. Box 1881, Montpelier VT 05601-1881 with questions.

What you'll need

Your orders, or medical paperwork if you were hospitalized, showing the qualifying service and when it ended.

Eligibility

  • You are filing a Vermont income tax return
  • You were a reserve component service member ordered to full-time active duty because of a military conflict in an area designated as a combat zone, you served in an area designated as a combat zone, or you were hospitalized because of injuries received during that qualifying service
