Long term care and rehabilitation, fully VA-funded at a 70 percent or higher rating

You can get rehabilitation and long term care at the state veterans home in Bennington. It is a licensed residential healthcare facility offering short and long-term skilled nursing care, post-operative wound care, physical, speech, rehabilitation and occupational therapies, a certified Alzheimer’s and dementia unit, medical social work, respite care, dietary services, podiatry, dental services, palliative care, transportation and a family guest room. It accepts private payment, Medicare and Vermont Medicaid, and the VA pays for veterans with a service-connected disability rating of 70 percent or higher.

Contact the Vermont Veterans’ Home Admission Department at 802-447-6539 or VVh-admissions@vermont.gov, and submit the application for admission. The home is at 325 North Street, Bennington VT 05201, fax 802-447-2725.

What you'll need

Your DD214 showing at least 90 days of active duty and an honorable discharge, your VA disability rating letter if the VA will be paying, medical and care records, and proof of your relationship to the veteran if you are applying as a family member.

Eligibility

  • You served at least 90 days on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces, or were discharged earlier because of a disability incurred in the line of duty
  • You received an honorable discharge
  • You are the veteran, or the Gold Star parent, spouse or surviving spouse of an eligible veteran
