Veteran Designation on Minnesota Driver’s Licenses and ID Cards

You can have a veteran designation added to your Minnesota driver’s license or ID card as proof of your military service.

Apply at a Minnesota Driver and Vehicle Services office with your proof of eligibility. For questions call DVS at 651-201-7777 or use the DVS online contact form.

What you'll need

One of the following: your separation documents (DD214, WD AGO, NAVPERS or NGB 22), your military retired ID card, your Veteran ID card, or your Veteran Health ID card.

Eligibility

  • You served at least 181 total days on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces and received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions, or you retired from the National Guard or the U.S. Armed Forces Reserve
  • You hold or are applying for a Minnesota driver’s license or ID card
