Veteran Designation on South Carolina Driver Licenses, Beginner Permits and ID Cards

South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV)
No fee to add the designation to a license, permit or ID card

You can have a "Veteran" designation printed on your South Carolina driver license, beginner permit or ID card as proof of military service. There is no fee for adding it.

How to apply

Visit any South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles office and ask for the Veteran designation. Bring one of the accepted proof documents with you.

What you'll need

One of the following: a DD214 showing an honorable or general under honorable conditions discharge, an NGB Form 22 showing that discharge plus at least 20 years of qualifying reserve component service, a 20 year letter of eligibility for retired pay from a reserve component, or a Veteran ID Card issued by the VA.

Eligibility

  • You are applying for or renewing a South Carolina driver license, beginner permit or ID card
  • You received an honorable or general under honorable conditions discharge
  • You can show a DD214, an NGB Form 22 with at least 20 years of qualifying reserve component service, a 20 year letter of eligibility for retired pay, or a VA-issued Veteran ID Card
