Veteran Designation on West Virginia Driver's Licenses and ID Cards

You can have a veteran designation added to your West Virginia driver’s license or state ID card as proof of military service. There is no charge if the designation is the only transaction.

How to apply

Complete the West Virginia Application for a Driver’s License or ID Card and take it with your proof of service to a West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles regional office. The first application must be made in person.

What you'll need

One of the following: a DD214, WD AGO 53, WD AGO 55, WD AGO 53-55, NAVPERS 553, NAVMC 78PD, NAVCG 553, a military ID, or a West Virginia motor vehicle registration showing a current military license plate.

Eligibility

  • You are a West Virginia licence or ID card holder
  • You were honorably discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces
  • You can provide one of the accepted proof of service documents
