Veteran Identifier on Wisconsin Driver Licenses and ID Cards

You can have a veteran identifier printed on your Wisconsin driver licence or state ID card as proof of your military service.

How to apply

Get WDVA verification first, by calling 800-WIS-VETS (800-947-8387) and choosing option 1, online through MyWisVets, or by submitting the WDVA eligibility application for the WisDOT veteran identifier to the address on the form. Then apply at your nearest Wisconsin Division of Motor Vehicles office.

What you'll need

A copy of your DD214 or DD215 for the WDVA verification, and your normal driver licence or ID documents at the DMV.

Eligibility

  • You received an honorable discharge, or a general discharge under honorable conditions
  • You served two years or your full term of service on active duty other than for training during peacetime, or 90 days on active duty other than for training during a wartime period, or served in a designated crisis zone, unless you were discharged earlier because of hardship, a service-connected disability or a reduction in force
  • You have obtained WDVA verification of your eligibility
