You can have a "Veteran" indicator printed on your Virginia driver’s licence or ID card, which is a convenient way to show proof of service at retailers and restaurants that offer veteran discounts.

How to apply

Apply online through Virginia DMV online services, or send a completed Virginia Veteran Military Service Certification with copies of your documents by mail or fax to the Driver Support Work Center, Room 419, P.O. Box 27412, Richmond, VA 23269-0001, fax 804-367-1112. You can also apply in person at a Virginia DMV customer service centre.

What you'll need

Official documentation of your service and discharge: your DD214, U.S. Military Retired ID Card (DD Form 2), DD256, WD AGO or NGB22.

Eligibility

You are a Virginia resident
You served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces, or served more than 180 days in the Virginia National Guard or the U.S. Armed Forces Reserves
You received an honorable discharge
