Virginia Disabled Veteran License Plate

Free set of plates if you are blind, lost the use of a limb, or are rated total and permanent

Any veteran with a VA service-connected disability rating can get the Virginia Disabled Veteran licence plate, which can be personalised and comes with an optional disability symbol. You get the set free if you lost or lost the use of a leg, arm or hand, are blind, or have a total and permanent disability rating from the VA. Unremarried surviving spouses of eligible veterans can also apply.

How to apply

Order through the Virginia DMV Disabled Veteran plate ordering page, or apply in person or by mail with a licence plate application.

What you'll need

Either a Virginia DMV Veteran Certificate of Disability certified by a veteran service officer at a Virginia Department of Veterans Services benefits service office, or your VA Benefit Summary Letter showing that your disability is service-connected.

Eligibility

  • You are registering a vehicle in Virginia
  • You have a service-connected disability rating from the VA, or you are the unremarried surviving spouse of a veteran who did
  • If you are claiming the plate free of charge, you lost or lost the use of a leg, arm or hand, are blind, or have a total and permanent disability rating from the VA
