A funeral honours detail can perform a ceremony at the funeral of an eligible veteran or service member. At a minimum that means a two-person detail, the sounding of Taps, and the folding and presentation of the U.S. flag.
Ask your funeral director to request military funeral honours; they contact the right branch of service to arrange it. The Virginia National Guard funeral honours tri-fold lists area coordinators and points of contact for other branches.
The veteran’s DD214 or other discharge paperwork showing an honorable discharge, or the casualty documentation for a line-of-duty death.
