Virginia State Employee Paid Leave for Military Duty

Virginia Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM)
21 workdays of paid military leave per federal fiscal year, plus up to 8 hours for required physicals

As a Virginia state employee serving in a reserve component, you get 21 workdays of paid military leave each federal fiscal year for required training and for state or federal active duty. You also get up to 8 hours a year of paid time for pre-induction and other physical examinations required for military service. You do not lose seniority or accrued leave balances for taking it. Former members recalled to active duty and state employees who volunteer for active duty also qualify.

Give your agency’s human resources office a copy of your military orders and request paid military leave under Virginia DHRM Policy 4.50.

Eligibility

  • You are a Virginia state employee
  • You are serving in a reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces, have been recalled to active duty, or have volunteered for active duty
  • You have orders for required military training or state or federal active duty
