Virginia State Employment Veterans Hiring Preference

Virginia Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM), with each hiring state agency
5 or 10 percent added to a passing score, or an equivalent preference where no score is used

Virginia adds percentage points to your passing score when a state job uses a scored test. Honorably discharged veterans with 180 days of active duty get 5 percent. Veterans with a VA service-connected disability rating get 10 percent. Currently serving National Guard members who have completed initial active duty training get 5 percent. Surviving spouses and children under age 27 of a service member killed in the line of duty get 5 percent. Where a job does not use a scored metric, the hiring authority has to provide an equivalent veterans preference some other way.
