Virginia State Veterans Cemeteries

Virginia Department of Veterans Services (DVS)
No-cost burial, gravesite, headstone and perpetual care

Virginia has three state veterans cemeteries for veterans and their eligible family members: the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, and the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin. All three hold burial services in a committal shelter or chapel and can take in-ground burial of casketed remains, in-ground burial of cremated remains, and cremated remains placed above ground in a columbarium niche. There is no cost for the burial: you get a gravesite, opening and closing of the grave, a marble or granite headstone, and perpetual care.
