Virginia runs veterans care centres offering affordable long-term skilled nursing care, dementia and memory care, and short and long-term rehabilitation. The centres are the Davis and McDaniel Veterans Care Center, 4550 Shenandoah Avenue NW, Roanoke VA 24017, phone 540-982-2860, with 204 beds; the Sitter and Barfoot Veterans Care Center, 1601 Broad Rock Boulevard, Richmond VA 23224, phone 804-371-8000, with 200 beds; the Jones and Cabacoy Veterans Care Center, 2641 Nimmo Parkway, Virginia Beach VA 23456, phone 757-630-3100, with 128 beds; and the Puller Veterans Care Center, 6951 Vint Hill Parkway, Warrenton VA 20187, phone 540-680-5200, with 128 beds.

What you'll need

Your DD214 showing your service and honorable discharge, proof of Virginia residency at the time you entered service or now, and medical documentation showing you need skilled nursing care.

Eligibility

  • You were a Virginia resident when you entered the U.S. Armed Forces, or you are a Virginia resident now
  • You served 24 continuous months on active duty other than for training, or the full period you were called to active duty
  • You received an honorable discharge for your last term of service
  • You require skilled nursing home care
