Virginia Works Priority of Service for Veterans and Eligible Spouses

Virginia Works (state workforce agency)
Earlier access to Department of Labor funded employment services

You are served ahead of non-veterans for any Virginia Works program funded wholly or partly by the U.S. Department of Labor, which means you get earlier access to a service than someone without that status. Virginia Works staff also check every new job listing to see whether a veteran or eligible spouse qualifies for it.

Check eligibility

How to apply

Tell staff at your nearest Virginia Works office that you are a veteran or an eligible spouse when you first ask for a service, and show your proof of status.

What you'll need

Your DD214 showing active duty service and a discharge other than dishonorable, or, if you are claiming as a spouse, your marriage certificate together with the veteran’s VA rating, death certificate or casualty documentation.

Eligibility

  • You are using a Virginia Works program funded wholly or partly by the U.S. Department of Labor
  • You served on active duty other than for training and received a discharge other than dishonorable, or you are the spouse or unremarried surviving spouse of a veteran who died of a service-connected disability, a veteran with a total service-connected disability rating from the VA, a veteran who died while such a disability existed, or a service member listed for 90 days or more as missing in action, captured in the line of duty by a hostile force, or forcibly detained or interned in the line of duty by a foreign government or power
