Waiver of Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles Fees for Eligible Disabled Veterans

Vehicle sales tax, registration, licensing and driver licensing fees waived

If the VA paid for modifications to your vehicle to accommodate your disability, that specially adapted vehicle is exempt from Vermont vehicle sales tax, registration fees and licensing fees. If the VA gave you a specially adapted vehicle, your driver’s licensing fees are also waived.

How to apply

Bring your VA documentation to a Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles office when you register the vehicle or renew your license, and ask for the disabled veteran fee exemption.

What you'll need

Your VA paperwork showing that the VA paid for the vehicle modifications or provided the specially adapted vehicle, and your VA disability documentation.

  • You are a veteran with a disability
  • The VA paid for modifications to your vehicle to accommodate your disability, or the VA provided you with a specially adapted vehicle
