Washington State Disabled Veteran Property Tax Exemption

Local Washington county assessor
Property tax reduced based on your income, home value and local levy rates

You can have the property taxes on your home reduced if you are a disabled veteran. The amount of the reduction depends on your combined disposable income, the value of your residence and your local levy rates. Your combined disposable income has to be at or below Income Threshold 3, which is set from the median household income of the county your property is in, so the ceiling differs from county to county.

How to apply

Apply through the county assessor where your property is located, not the state. Send the assessor the Senior Citizen and People with Disabilities Exemption from Real Property Taxes application, a Combined Disposable Income Worksheet, and your VA Benefit Summary Letter or a DOR Proof of Disability Statement. Your county assessor is also the office that can tell you how large your reduction will be.

What you'll need

A completed exemption application, a completed Combined Disposable Income Worksheet, and either a VA Benefit Summary Letter or a Washington State Department of Revenue Proof of Disability Statement.

Eligibility

  • You served in the U.S. Armed Forces
  • You receive VA compensation for a service-connected disability rating of 80 percent or higher, or for a total service-connected disability rating regardless of the percentage
  • Your combined disposable income is at or below Income Threshold 3 for the county your property is in
