Washington State Employment Veterans Hiring Preference

Washington State employing agencies
5 or 10 percent added to a passing examination score

You get extra points added to a passing state employment examination score. Veterans who served in a wartime period or when an expeditionary or campaign medal was authorized, and who are not eligible for military retired pay, get 10 percent. Veterans receiving military retired pay get 5 percent, as do veterans who did not serve in a wartime period. A reserve component member called to active duty while in public employment gets 5 percent added to a promotional exam score for their first promotion. If the employer uses no examination, eligible applicants must be referred to the hiring official for consideration.
