Licence stays valid until 90 days after discharge

Your Washington driver licence stays valid until 90 days after your discharge if you are serving on active duty, and the same applies to your dependents. To rely on the extension you have to carry your licence or ID card, your active duty or dependent ID card, and a Department of Licensing Authorization Card.

What you'll need

Your Washington driver licence or ID card, your active duty or dependent ID card, and a Washington State Department of Licensing Authorization Card.

Eligibility

  • You are serving on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces, you are a reserve component service member called to active duty for 180 days or more, or you are the spouse, domestic partner or dependent living at the same residence as the service member
  • You hold a Washington State driver licence or ID card
  • You carry a Department of Licensing Authorization Card with your licence and military ID
