Washington State Veterans Cemetery

Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA)
No charge for an eligible veteran; $311 for a dependent burial

You can be buried at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery near Fairchild Air Force Base at Medical Lake. Casket burial includes the plot, a concrete liner and an upright granite marker. For cremated remains you can choose a columbarium niche with an inscribed granite cover, a ground plot with an upright granite marker, or the scattering garden, which includes an inscribed flat granite marker. There is no charge to bury an eligible veteran, and a dependent burial costs $311. Cemetery staff arrange military funeral honors for eligible veterans and service members. There is no Washington residency requirement.

Establish eligibility before there is a need through the WDVA pre-need determination process, then mail, fax or email the eligibility application and supporting documents to Washington State Veterans Cemetery, 21702 W. What you'll need

Your DD214 or other discharge paperwork, and a marriage certificate or dependent documentation for a spouse or child. The full list is on the eligibility application.

Eligibility

  • You were discharged from active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces under conditions other than dishonorable, died while serving on active duty, served at least 20 years in the National Guard or Reserves and qualified for military retired pay or would have except that death occurred before age 60, or were a reserve component member activated for federal service
  • Your spouse and children qualify through you, with children limited to unmarried children under 21, under 23 if a full-time student at an approved school, or a child who developed a lifelong disability before age 21
