License remains valid until six months after separation from active duty

Your West Virginia driver’s license stays valid while you serve in the U.S. Armed Forces, and for six months after you are separated from active duty under honorable circumstances.

How to apply

There is nothing to apply for while you are serving. Carry your military ID and orders with your license, and renew with the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles within six months of separating.

Your military ID or orders while serving, and your DD214 when you renew after separation.

Eligibility

  • You hold a West Virginia driver’s license
  • You are serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, or separated from active duty under honorable circumstances within the last six months
