The fund pays to install a grave marker for a deceased veteran when the family or next of kin do not meet the VA income limits. Family members, licensed funeral directors and cemeteries can all apply.

How to apply

Mail the completed John F. "Jack" Bennett Fund application with the documentation listed on it to the West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance, Office of the Cabinet Secretary, 1900 Kanawha Boulevard East, Building 5, Suite 205, Charleston, WV 25305.

What you'll need

The completed application, the veteran’s discharge paperwork, the death certificate, and the income documentation the application asks for.

Eligibility

  • You are the family member, next of kin, licensed funeral director or cemetery applying on behalf of a deceased veteran
  • The veteran’s family members or next of kin do not meet the VA income limits
  • You need a grave marker installed for the veteran
