Tuition and mandatory fees waived for up to eight semesters

Every state supported college and university in West Virginia waives tuition and mandatory fees for veterans who received the Medal of Honor or the Purple Heart. The waiver runs for up to eight semesters and applies only after all your other state and federal education benefits, grants and scholarships have been used.

How to apply

Contact the admissions office at the West Virginia public institution you plan to attend and ask for the Medal of Honor and Andrew J. Trail Purple Heart tuition waiver.

What you'll need

Your DD214 or award documentation showing the Medal of Honor or Purple Heart, proof of West Virginia residency, and if you are claiming on the Purple Heart, medical documentation of the limb loss or permanent disability.

Eligibility

  • You are a West Virginia resident
  • You received the Medal of Honor or the Purple Heart
  • You received an honorable discharge
  • If you are claiming on the basis of the Purple Heart, you lost a limb or have a permanent disability from the wounds you received
  • You have used all other state and federal education benefits, grants and scholarships first
