Purple Heart recipients can get a West Virginia Purple Heart license plate, which is exempt from registration fees and also allows free parking at metered spaces. Your unremarried surviving spouse can keep the plate until it is not renewed, or until their death.
Complete the West Virginia Application for a Purple Heart License Plate, have it certified by a West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance benefits office, and submit it to the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles.
Documentation showing you were awarded the Purple Heart, such as your DD214 or award citation.
