West Virginia State Employee Leave for Military Service

240 hours of paid military leave for training, plus 240 hours for each federal mobilization

If you are a West Virginia state employee serving in the National Guard or the Reserves, you get 240 hours of paid military leave for training and drills. Each time you are mobilized to federal active duty you get another 240 hours of paid military leave. When you serve on active duty and receive an honorable discharge you return to the same or a similar position with no loss of pay, status or efficiency rating.

How to apply

Give your agency’s human resources office a copy of your orders and request military leave. Contact them again to arrange your return to work when your service ends.

  • You are a West Virginia state employee
  • You are a National Guard or U.S. Armed Forces Reserve service member
  • You have orders for training, drills or federal active duty
