Wisconsin Apprenticeships and On-the-Job Training for Veterans

Paid apprenticeship and on-the-job training placement

You can earn while you learn a trade through Wisconsin apprenticeship and on-the-job training programs. Combat to Construction is an eight week heavy equipment operator program run by Operating Engineers Local Union 139, with two weeks of classroom instruction in Coloma and six weeks of on-the-job training with a union employer in your home region. Veterans in Piping is an 18 week pipe trades program run by the Wisconsin Pipe Trades Association, with six weeks of classroom instruction at union facilities and 12 weeks of on-the-job training.

Contact your nearest Wisconsin County or Tribal Veterans Service Officer, who will refer you into the apprenticeship or on-the-job training program you want.

What you'll need

Your DD214 or proof of current service, and whatever the sponsoring union or employer requires for the trade.

Eligibility

  • You are a veteran, a returning service member, or a reserve component service member
  • You are accepted into a Wisconsin apprenticeship or on-the-job training program
