Wisconsin G.I. Bill Tuition Remission Program for Veterans, Spouses and Children

Full tuition and segregated fees for up to 8 full-time semesters or 128 credits, whichever is greater

Full tuition and segregated fees are forgiven for up to eight full-time semesters or 128 credits, whichever is greater, at a University of Wisconsin System institution or a Wisconsin Technical College. You can study full or part time and use it for any degree level. This is a state program, entirely separate from your VA education benefits, and your spouse and children can use it too.

How to apply

Apply online through MyWisVets, or mail, email or fax a Request for Certification for Wisconsin G.I. Bill to WDVA at 2135 Rimrock Road, PO Box 7843, Madison WI 53707-7843, email Records@dva.wisconsin.gov, fax 608-267-0403. If you apply by mail, email or fax you will also have to give an Educational Institution Application for Wisconsin G.I. Bill to the school you plan to attend.

What you'll need

Your DD214, proof of Wisconsin residency if the home of record on your DD214 is not Wisconsin, proof of the veteran’s VA disability rating if you are applying as a spouse or child, a marriage certificate for a spouse, and the child’s birth certificate or Social Security card.

Eligibility

  • You are enrolled at a University of Wisconsin System institution or a Wisconsin Technical College
  • You are a Wisconsin resident now and were a resident when you entered active duty, or you have been a Wisconsin resident for at least five consecutive years before applying
  • You received an honorable discharge after 90 or more days of active duty during a wartime period, active duty in a crisis zone, at least two years of active duty or your full initial service obligation, service under Section 1 of Executive Order 10957 of 10 August 1961, service that made you eligible for the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal or an equivalent medal, or a discharge before you met the time in service requirement because of a service-connected disability, hardship or a reduction in force
  • If you are applying as a spouse or child, the veteran has a 30 percent or greater service-connected disability rating from the VA, died in the line of duty, or died as the result of a service-connected disability
  • If you are applying as a surviving spouse you are unremarried, and if you are applying as a child you are at least 17 and under 26 years old
