Wisconsin Hire Heroes Transitional Jobs Program for Veterans

Up to 1,040 hours of subsidized employment with on-the-job training

You can take a subsidized job for up to 1,040 hours to pick up new or updated skills through on-the-job training, with the employer reimbursed the federal minimum wage while they train you. It is aimed at veterans facing high barriers to employment.

Contact your local Wisconsin Job Center for enrolment, and complete the Hire Heroes transitional jobs application.

What you'll need

Your DD214, proof that you have been unemployed for at least four weeks, and whatever the program requires for substance abuse screening, testing and treatment.

Eligibility

  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • You are a veteran as defined in Wisconsin Statutes 45.01(12)
  • You have been unemployed for at least four weeks
  • You are not eligible to take part in the Wisconsin Works (W-2) program
  • You satisfy all requirements for substance abuse screening, testing and treatment
