Military funeral honors ceremony at no cost to the family

A deceased veteran or service member is entitled to a military funeral honors ceremony at no cost to the family, including the folding and presentation of the United States burial flag and the sounding of Taps.

How to apply

Ask your funeral director to request honors, or fax or email the WDVA Military Funeral Honors Request to 262-878-5677 or 866-454-0356, or honors@dva.wisconsin.gov. For questions, call 877-944-6667.

What you'll need

The veteran’s name, date of birth and Social Security number, their DD214 or other proof of service, and their branch and type of service, whether active, reserve, National Guard or retired.

Eligibility

  • The veteran died while serving in an active or reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces, was discharged from active duty under conditions other than dishonorable, completed at least one term of enlistment or initial service obligation in a reserve component and was discharged under conditions other than dishonorable, or was discharged because of a service-connected disability
