Wisconsin National Guard Workers Compensation for Injury, Illness or Death on State Active Duty

If you are hurt, become ill, become disabled or die in the line of duty while serving on state active duty with the Wisconsin National Guard, you are covered by Wisconsin worker’s compensation. If you are accidentally killed in the line of duty, your beneficiaries receive a $50,000 death benefit. Worker’s compensation is not paid where similar benefits are provided under federal law or regulation.

Report the injury, illness or death through your chain of command and file a worker’s compensation claim through the Wisconsin National Guard.

What you'll need

Your state active duty orders, a line of duty determination, your medical records for the injury or illness, and the death certificate and proof of your relationship if you are a beneficiary claiming the death benefit.

Eligibility

  • You are a Wisconsin National Guard service member, or the beneficiary of one
  • You were injured, became ill, became disabled or died in the line of duty while serving on state active duty
  • You are not already receiving similar benefits under federal law or regulation
