Partial, short-term wage replacement

You can claim temporary income if you lose your job through no fault of your own. It replaces part of your lost wages while you look for other work, is not meant to be a permanent income, and is paid for entirely by employers.

How to apply

File online through the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development unemployment insurance filing site. It is open Sunday 9 a.m. to midnight, Monday to Friday 24 hours, and Saturday midnight to 3 p.m. For help with online services, call 414-435-7069 or 844-910-3661.

What you'll need

A username and password, an email address or mobile number, your current mailing address, your Social Security number, your Wisconsin driver licence or ID number, your work history for the last 18 months with each employer’s name, address, phone number, your dates of work and why you left, your alien registration details if you are not a U.S. citizen, your DD214 Member 4 copy if you were discharged in the last 18 months, an SF-50 or SF-8 if you were a federal civilian employee in the last 18 months, your union hall name and local number if you were employed through a union, and your bank routing and account number for direct deposit.

Eligibility

  • You are unemployed through no fault of your own
  • You are able and available to work and are seeking other work
  • You meet Wisconsin’s wage and work history requirements
