Wisconsin Veteran Upward Bound Program

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Veterans Upward Bound
No cost college preparation, tutoring and enrollment support

You can get free help becoming college-ready and enrolling in a university, community college or vocational program, at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the Zablocki VA Domiciliary Veterans Center. It includes academic assessments and an individual learning plan, refresher classes in reading, writing, math, science and computer skills, tutoring and placement test preparation, admissions and enrollment advising, career and skills assessments, FAFSA help, financial aid research, a laptop loan program and computer lab, study space and referrals to community resources.

What you'll need

Your DD214 or other discharge paperwork, and family income and dependent information if you are qualifying on low income.

Eligibility

  • You received a discharge other than dishonorable
  • You served at least 180 days on active duty unless you were discharged earlier for medical reasons, or you served in a reserve component and were called to federal active duty for 30 days or more, or you were called to federal active duty in support of a contingency operation
  • You are low income based on your family income and number of dependents, you would be a first-generation college student because neither parent earned a four-year degree, or you are at risk of academic failure
  • You can demonstrate academic potential, academic need and a willingness to learn
