Wisconsin Veterans Assistance Health Care Aid Grant

Local Wisconsin County or Tribal Veterans Service Office, with the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs
Up to $800 dental in 12 months, $4,000 extended dental in 24 months, $400 vision in 12 months, $200 hearing in 12 months and $1,875 per hearing aid in 24 months

You can get a grant toward health care you cannot otherwise pay for, once you have used up every other source of aid. Dental care is capped at $800 in any consecutive 12 months, with extended dental care capped at $4,000 in any consecutive 24 months. Vision care is capped at $400 in any consecutive 12 months. Hearing care is capped at $200 in any consecutive 12 months, and each hearing aid you need is capped at $1,875 in any consecutive 24 months.

How to apply

Apply through a WDVA County or Tribal Veterans Service Officer, who submits the health care aid application for you. You cannot apply directly to the state. For questions, email DVAMBCOVetsBenefitsGrants@dva.wisconsin.gov.

What you'll need

Your DD214, proof that you live in Wisconsin, your household income documentation, a statement of your household liquid assets, the treatment estimate or bill, and evidence that you have exhausted other sources of aid.

Eligibility

  • You are a Wisconsin resident veteran as defined in Wisconsin Statutes 45.01(12)(a) to (k)
  • You have exhausted all other sources of aid
  • Your household income is at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines
  • Your household liquid assets are not more than $1,000
