Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemeteries

No cost burial for eligible veterans; a fee applies for a spouse or dependent child

Burial for veterans and their eligible family members is available at N4063 Veterans Way, Spooner WI 54801, phone 715-635-5360, fax 715-635-5363, email nwvmc@dva.wisconsin.gov. The cemetery offers in-ground burial of caskets and cremated remains, above ground placement of cremated remains in a columbarium wall niche, and placement of cremated remains in a scattering garden. A veteran who meets the eligibility requirements is buried at no cost; a spouse or dependent child is charged a fee.

How to apply

Complete the WDVA pre-registration for cemetery interment application to establish eligibility before there is a need, or pre-register online through MyWisVets, which is the fastest route and lets you upload your documents. What you'll need

Your DD214 or other discharge paperwork, and a marriage certificate or dependent documentation for family members. The rest is listed on the pre-registration form.

Eligibility

  • You were discharged from active duty under conditions other than dishonorable, died while serving on active duty, served at least 20 years in the National Guard or U.S. Armed Forces Reserves and qualified for military retired pay or would have qualified except that death occurred before age 60, or were a reserve component member activated for federal service
  • Your spouse and dependent children qualify through you, with dependent children limited to unmarried children under 18, under 26 if a full-time student at an approved school, or a child who developed a lifelong disability before age 21
