Wyoming Veterans Property Tax Exemption

Local Wyoming county assessor office, with guidance from the Wyoming Property Tax Division and the Wyoming Veterans Commission
$6,000 of assessed value exempt from property tax, or the same amount applied to a vehicle licensing fee

You can exempt $6,000 of the assessed value of your primary residence from Wyoming property tax. If you do not use the exemption on real property, you can apply it to a vehicle licensing fee instead. An unremarried surviving spouse of an eligible veteran can claim it.

How to apply

Apply at your local county assessor office between January 1 and the fourth Monday of May each year. This is a county filing, not a state one. For help, call the Wyoming Veterans Commission at 800-833-5987 or use its online contact page.

What you'll need

A copy of your DD214 or equivalent discharge document. If you qualify through a VA disability rating, bring documentation of the rating; if you qualify through an expeditionary medal, bring proof of the award. A surviving spouse should also bring proof of the marriage and of the veteran eligibility.

Eligibility

  • You have been a Wyoming resident for three or more years before you claim the exemption
  • You served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II, the Korean War or the Vietnam War, or you served overseas during an armed conflict and received an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal or an equivalent medal, or you have a compensable service-connected disability rating from the VA, or you are the unremarried surviving spouse of an eligible veteran
  • You are claiming the exemption on your primary residence, or on a vehicle licensing fee instead
